Islam had been quite progressive towards women

20080224_dsc0568.jpg

Food for thought in Radha’s blog post linked below. From what I’ve seen in Islamic countries I’m not sure I’d say that Islam has become very progessive. And usually the men are saying it is progressive, we don’t (except of course for Benazir Bhutto) hear from the women. For example, where are the mosques for women? In Oman at the Grand Mosque (shown in the photo above) with space or 6000 men there is space for 750 women behind a screen. The screen is so that the men can’t see them but they can see the person who is leading the prayer.

Lifehacker Top 10: Top 10 Ways to Get Cables Under Control

If I only had access to all the stuff you can get at Home Depot here in Kuwait. Such a cable mess we have. Partly due to the mix of cord end types: British, two types of European and even American. And cheap power bars. The Ikea desk cable support trays won’t hold on to a power bar because of these types of ends and also the different end types in the power transformers that have to plug in. Arghh …

Wives from Africa, America and Holland

Three men were sitting together, bragging about how they had given their new wives duties.

The first man had married a woman from Africa, and had told her that she was going to do dishes and house cleaning. It took a couple of days, but on the third day he came home to a clean house and dishes washed and put away.

The second man married a woman from America, and had given his wife orders that she was to do all the cleaning, dishes and cooking. The first day he didn’t see any results, but the next day he saw it was better. By the third day, he saw the house was clean, the dishes were done and there was a hugedinner on the table.

The third man married a woman from Holland. He told her that her duties were to keep the house cleaned, dishes washed, lawn mowed, laundry washed and hot meals on the table every night. He said, the first day he didn’t see anything, the second day he didn’t see anything and by the third day, some of the swelling had gone down and he could see a little out of his left eye, enough to fix himself a bite and load the dishwasher.

Sick people on airplanes - are the airlines prepared?

With an aging population it is going to happen more! I was only once on a flight when across from me a middle aged woman collapsed. Well, and in fact a few weeks back a man collapsed in front of me in the locker room at the gym. Turns out he was a diabetic with high blood pressure who had just stepped out of the sauna and only made it a few paces before dropping.

Read this. I certainly watch carfully at security checkpoints, but with the whole family it is always quite chaotic.

The Associated Press: Chavez Warns of War With Colombia

Chavez has increasingly revealed his sympathies for the FARC, and in January asked that it be struck from lists of terrorist groups internationally.

Now what is Chavez up to. It is proven that his policies are not working so is this a smokesceen?
