Sandstorm Season Starts in Kuwait

As if it hasn’t started already. This is in the Kuwait Times today:

KUWAIT, June 5 (KUNA) — Al Bawareh sandstorm season started in Kuwait on Thursday, Meteorologist Adel Al-Saadoun told reporters here.
“The season, locally known as summer “Merbi’yania,” usually lasts for 40 days,” he noted.
“The storms are caused by fast northeastern winds that bring sand and dust from the desert areas.
“The winds are driven by the air depression over the Indian subcontinent which is known as “the Indian depression,” Al-Saadoun explained.
“The depression causes heavy rains across India and the nearby countries but brings nothing but sandstorm to Kuwait which suffered a generally dry winter this year.
“The dry seasons make land liable to desertification and are usually followed by suffocating sandstorms,” he added.

Marketing of teens

Some comments on the 15 year old Disney star Miley Cyrus who’s partially clothed photos were in Vanity Fair. No wonder everyone is screwed up and can’t see the other gender as brother or sister.

Never mind what a ludicrous system this is that chooses young women for their sex appeal and then expects them to act as role models for the chastity of the rest of the population. It’s the insincerity of everyone concerned that really chokes me. Not one person involved can seriously think Miley Cyrus had any kind of influence over this, or any other, image-building decision.

Her career started off in this great cloud of wholesomeness because that’s how they always start.

Oh wait Disney is not to blame as on Slate it says

Disney spokeswoman Patti McTeague told the New York Times that “a situation was created to deliberately manipulate a 15-year-old in order to sell magazines.”

Yeah right, you don’t think her contract with Disney would insist on control of images usages.
