Mount Bourgeau Panorama

The view from the top of Mount Bourgeau in Banff National Park on 29 August 2011. The hike up and down is a total of 24 km with an elevation gain of 1500 m.

The weather and communication relay shack on the summit is obviously helicopter supported and runs on solar power and fuel cells. It is an ideal location as there is a clear line of sight between Sunshine Village, Banff and west down the Bow Valley.

Le Tour de France Has Started

From about 25 years ago near the end of the Jasper to Calgary non-stop ride we did. 420 km in 19.5 hours. Not quite the pace they do on the tour. We averaged 21.5 km/h. The tour averages a bit over 50 km/hr!

The route is below. One of the most scenic roads in the world, through the Icefields Parkway. We rode it at night and it was unforgettable!

Calgary Engineering Students Provide Unique Message for the Space Shuttle

From University of Calgary, where I spent four years to get my engineering degree. Too bad for the clouds and the astronauts didn’t see the lights.

Here’s another use of lights on sheep. I think there was some manipulation of the video though. It looks too good.

Driver caught at 190 km/h in 70 km zone

This happened in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and is reported in the Calgary Herald

A 21-year-old Edmonton man driving 190 kilometres an hour in a 70 km/h zone this week had the misfortune to zoom right past an unmarked police car.

Police spokeswoman Patrycia Thenu said the man was driving his newer model Audi erratically Thursday night and flashing his headlights in the rear-view mirrors of cars he approached, including the unmarked car.

He pulled over immediately when the officer turned on his emergency equipment and was co-operative with the officer, Thenu said.

Thenu said the man wasn’t on alcohol or drugs. he was issued a speeding ticket and will have to appear before a judge.

Nothing unusual with that kind of driving in Kuwait, you see that kind of driving all the time! Of course you also see horrible wrecks too.
